Today on the blog, we are talking about Stress Awareness Month. The American Institute of Stress designates the month of April each year to promote the negative impact that stress causes on the body. The Institute also provides methods and tools to help find calming activities. We have asked our staff members what they do to relieve stress. At the bottom of this post, you will find sources that focus on the impact of stress.
Music
Many of our staff members say that listening to music is the main way they like to de-stress.
I like to listen to calming music/sounds or uplifting music/ favorite songs
I like to listen to songs that remind me of my childhood
You can find many free customizable playlists for stress and anxiety on popular platforms like Hoopla, Spotify and Youtube Music.
Exercise
The second biggest stress reliever is exercising. Many members of our staff like to take walks or partake in low impact classes like yoga.
I like to take a break by taking a short walk especially if the sun is out (soaking up vitamin D)
Yoga has been a great tool for me to get out of my head
I go on walks and listen to music to get some activity
Self Care
The third thing our staff enjoys is self care. The great thing about self care is that it can be anything you want it to be. Some suggestions include journaling, spa days at home, and more!
We can’t always afford massages/spa time so taking a nice hot bubble bath with epsom salt and lighting a scented candle (lavender, eucalyptus, etc) to help you relax is awesome.
Venting to someone you trust
Cooking your favorite meal or a new recipe
Sometimes just sitting or laying down in silence and taking deep breaths helps=
Coloring mandalas
Entertainment
Many of our staff enjoy various ways of entertainment as a de-stress activity. Reading, along with watching tv and movies is a great way to de-stress! You can download Hoopla and Libby for FREE with your library card!
Watching something funny can help release stress by laughter lol
Coloring, reading, watching a movie ( a hobby to help you distract your thoughts)
I enjoy watching Youtube videos of comedy shows like Key and Peele and Monty Python
I like to watch something that makes me laugh
